A production sample can look perfect.

The dimensions are within tolerance.

The appearance is clean.

Everything seems ready for approval.

But before approving a production sample, there is one important question that is often overlooked:

Which cavity produced this sample?


Multi-Cavity Molds Are Designed for Efficiency

Many plastic packaging components are manufactured using multi-cavity injection molds.

Whether a mold contains 8, 16, 32 or even more cavities, the objective is simple:

Increase productivity while maintaining consistent quality.

However, production consistency should never be assumed.

It should always be verified.


Small Variations Can Create Big Problems

Although every cavity is designed to produce the same component, small differences may develop over time.

These differences may result from normal production wear, maintenance history, machining tolerances or process variation.

Most of these differences are difficult to detect through a visual inspection alone.

However, they may later contribute to:

One Sample Represents One Cavity

  • Which mold number produced the sample?
  • Which cavity produced it?
  • Were samples evaluated across all cavities?

These questions are not intended to question the supplier.

They are intended to increase confidence that the approved sample truly represents production.

When quality issues appear in the market, they do not always affect every product equally.

Sometimes they can be traced back to a specific cavity.

That is why production validation is not simply about approving one perfect sample.

It is about verifying consistent performance across every cavity in the production mold.
